Blogging Toolkit

I have been blogging for about two years now, and a lot of people interested in jumping into the blogosphere or boosting their online presence have asked what tools I use.

So to make it easier on both you and I, below is a list of various resources and tools that are valuable for successful blogging and internet businesses.

I am constantly trying new things. That said, I will be adding to it as I test new solutions. So make sure you check back often.

Some of the out-going links are affiliate links (full disclosure). However, you have my word that if it is on this page, then I give it my full endorsement.

Your Blog

WordPress. This is the best free blogging platform that I know of. And if you ask any Internet marketer or web designer, they will all likely say the same thing. Easy to set up, and easy to use for non-tech people like myself.

Genesis Framework by StudioPress. StudioPress developed the Genesis Framework which helps novices, like myself, and developers quickly and easily build great Websites using WordPress. The great thing about it is that you can get a secure, search-engine-optimized foundation, and with a few dollars more you can purchase an amazingly styled child theme — that is, if you’re not familiar with design. You’ll be up and running in no time with Genesis. This framework really does to take WordPress to a whole new level. I think I made a wise choice.

Themes

WooThemes – Premium WordPress Templates. The previous design for my website came from these designers. I loved their layout for its crisp, modern design. However, I moved on to the Genesis Framework because I needed something that was easier to custom design on my own without hiring a professional web designer.

Hosting

HostGator While there are several different web hosts out there, I’ve chosen to use Hostgator for now. They offer some great support, plus 1-click WordPress installs.

Keyword / Market Research

Google Keyword Tool. Designed for use in evaluating keywords for Adwords campaigns, but it gives some useful data for general keyword research and evaluating market strength. I’ve used this tool extensively and it helps me determine what words people use in Internet searches related to a given topic.

Analytics

Google Analytics. This is popular and it is free. Some probloggers recommend you use this even if you have another stat service.

Training

David Risley’s The Inner Circle Membership. I can’t say enough great things about David Risley. He’s a straight-shooter when it comes to making money blogging or building a business online. I’ve really enjoyed being  part of his Inner Circle. If you want to discover new, proven strategies to help you build an email list, build traffic, monetize and grow your blog, then I highly recommend you join his monthly program. You’ll also get access to a ton of videos and workshops. You can even have him evaluate your website or blog’s layout and usability, if you choose. Check it out!

While I am at it, I’ll also recommend you check out his 3-Day Money workshop. I have not personally tried it, but if it’s David Risley I know it is quality. 3 Day Money is a 3-day video training course where David shows you the basics of how to set up an online business and make money on the Internet.
